On this day 21 years ago, I was to memorise 2 sets of 19 maps of AVN (GFS) and targetted Coffs Harbour. A storm developed on the Dorrigo Plateau mountain embedded in the base. Within 2 hours at Corindi Beach to experience my first beaver tail. Experience large to giant hail north of there along the highway. Was there a tornado or two in this storm - we will never know but the beaver tail was testament to the balance between inflow and supercell air dynamics. Certainly a big classic supercell.

I travelled down the coast to experience supercells into the night. $200 phone bill that month haha who cares can’t replace memories like this!

Ok 5th November 2000 - Incredible day for me and one of my largest ever phone bill with the old brick and Telstra unaffordable plans! But anyways I loved the chase and this image situation. I know it has been repeated many a time but who cares when shit has not hit the fan this season yet!

  1. Leonie Louise Sunshine Corindi Beach about 30 to 40km north of Coffs Harbour. Storm was active for at least 4 hours, produced giant hail, and some suspicious lowerings that showed strong rotation.

  2. A beaver tail slang term is quasi permanent boundary between the inflow and outflow that seems to strike a balance and often occurs before tornadoes or at least strongly rotating supercell

  3. Lenticularis although not the same dynamically behaves similar ie the cloud flows along although as a system remains stationary with respect to the supercell environment
