Started at Narrabri - flat battery and an NRMA call and off I went. Target Grafton via Dorrigo. Darted to Ulong region which was close to where 2cm hail reported just after I had gotten through. This was the storm I had observed initiate near Ebor.
Chased a few interesting cells and interactions NW of Coffs Harbour hinterland. The SE surge kept stuffing up storms in this region. I moved to Grafton and soon met up with Michael Bath and Jason and Cameron once again!
Cells would go up NE of Grafton and get undercut - something had to get the heating and break straight through. So we headed on the NE side of the cluster. And as we got to Whipore - kaboom!! Cap breaker. absolutely beautiful dry supercell base with wall cloud. It was so dry and photogenic on the southern side I thought it must be a right mover. The descending RFD precipitation cascade put an end to that theory. Hard boiling updraft and RFD cut eventually gave way to a linear beautifully contrasted shelf structure! This last supercell storm made the chase definitely worthwhile the drive!

Good stuff Jimmy lovely looking storm there mate, you get any bolts out of this thing? :D
Not that I know of but was on the move – time-lapsed the past stage
Great stuff, Jimmy!
Wise decision. I hung around the Liverpool Plains until around 4pm. I should have went with my gut feel which was telling me that instability was disappearing from anything much above surface – I think DP’s were inflated due to all the surface water, but moisture may have been paper thin (just guessing as I did not look at models). Around mid afternoon logic said that if nothing was going up on Warrumbungles, it was not going to go up on Plains. However I did get a booby prize in a LP mutant thing at Breeza on way home. Also a strobing Supercell sitting off the coast whilst driving through Sydney.
OH man that is bad luck Michael I saw that coastal cell down near St Geroges an wondered if you had made it back in time to nail it.
Stunning pics Jimmy
Gorgeous shots, Jimmy.

Nice stuff Jimmy! Must make for a long drive home coming this far. I couldn’t really chase but popped out and took some photos from my backyard then up briefly to Nana Glen on the other side of the Ulong storm
I just got home – long drive. Was great to catch up with Jason Cameron and of course Michael – congratulations on both you and Alison to becoming grand parents. And thanks for the accommodation – it certainly helps the budget!
