What a day Saturday turned out to be after some very ordinary early cells (apart from the Thora hailstorm which Jason Paterson and I couldn't see due to low cloud).

Thought it would be hard to beat what we saw on 30th Oct but ...

The structure of the supercell that tracked from near Armidale over Nymboida and into Grafton late afternoon/early evening was impressive, but the lightning was just amazing!!

It went nuts very close to us at this point - Jase will have some more.

This thing almost hit the car - I was pointing the camera out the windscreen while Jason was driving - Southgate area.

Then some more big bolts from Lawrence.

  1. More from me…..one of the most amazing lightning shows I’ve seen since I started chasing I know the last one is the same as MBs but I wanted to share my version as well.

    Cheers Jason

  2. What a day indeed, amazing pics guys!!!! I unfortunately missed the Cell which went through Grafton in the evening, I did catch this storm which came down from Dorigo earlier in the day and then made it to Sawtell to watch the offshore supercell going nuts with lightning.

This is the Dorigo storm, not the one which caused the big hail at Thora, this one developed behind that one.

This is the stills from the entire day put into a timelapes and includes the offshore pics later on as well.

  3. Michael and Jason,

Incredible lightning show! Spectacular structure illuminated by the lightning. Great you guys persisted when others took off early!

    Well done!

Kane – the photo timelpase came out well and shows the behaviour of the cell.

    Jimmy
